The waves were going OFF...

OK, so I should at least let you know a little about these pictures... it's been great weather out here for the last few days, so after work I've been going to the beach. Then this wind started kicking up from off shore and has been driving the waves CRAZY. I've actually seen some waves break twice. So yesterday I decided to stop by my apt on the way to the beach (it's two miles from work, and one from my apt) to grab my camera. Now I get to share with you guys.

Breathing Again

NEWS UPDATE: 3/26/05 9:00 am
At approximately 8:15 pm PST Thursday evening (3/24), over 100 of our volunteers were present as the Irving Johnson was successfully towed to deeper water where she was reported "floating well on her lines". She was towed into Channel Islands Harbor where a more detailed assessment of her condition was made earlier today. Although the vessel suffered some damage to planking in the chain locker and forward compartment, apparently as a result of contact with the breakwater rocks, "the stringers and frames are all solid... they did their job... the structure worked" said naval architect Bill Luther, who along with Bill Crealock, designed the brigantines. The Irving Johnson will be towed to Ventura Harbor on Saturday (3/26) in anticipation of being moved to Ventura Shipyard as space becomes available. Additional information will be posted as it becomes available.

Somehow I don't think I'm quite sane

I was being really good about updating, but started slacking off last week so, I'll give you a quick overview to bring you up to speed.

Wednesday: Sick, left work early.

Thursday: Sick, didn't go to work. Went to Disneyland later in the day to get the key from my uncle who was down there with his kids, wife and mom. They're such great people. I couldn't resist going on a few rides with them (even though I was miserable), since I have an annual pass and the kids are so cute. I went to a dinner I set up with my engineering buddies, and they cooked up some amazing food (PJ - Italian, George - Lebanese). Unfortunately I couldn't taste it, and otherwise just sat around drinking tea and sniffling.

Friday: Sick, stayed home again. Was visited by some friends that flew in from home. Left at 7pm for Napa Valley with my friends Jason, Stephanie and Julia. We didn't get to my uncles house where we were staying until 2am - but I conquered my control issues and let someone else drive while I passed out in blissful unconsciousness.

Saturday: Feeling better, but still sick off and on.
Trefethen: Went wine tasting at Trefethen, where I was treated like a prince when they realized who I was. Cute girl at the counter: "Oh, you're Jeremy? Rich is waiting for you in the private tasting library. He'll be showing you our distinctive wines. Enjoy!" The wines WERE distinctive, so much so that I took the liberty of the discount they gave me to buy some wines that I would NEVER have afforded otherwise. We back to the public area where the girl in the front conspired to get us drunk by giving us more free tasting and 20% off to everyone I came with and me. Fortunately my stomach couldn't handle it, so I looked very sophisticated when I poured out my wine after tasting it (well, I actually drank the really expensive ones). Oh, the chocolate wine sauce is to die for.

Napa Valley Mustard Festival: Sick. The Mustard Festival was really cool, but I just wasn't feeling up to it at his point. You get 5 wine tastings and 8 food tastings in these tents that are full of food and wine venders. Fortunately several of the food venders gave out free food samples too.

Mondovi: Fortunately by the time we reached the Mondovi winery I was feeling much better. Unfortunately we got there too late for our tour of the grounds and complimentary wine tasting, but I've already done it so I don't feel like I missed out too much. We tasted some wine anyway, so it's all good.

Mumm: I was feeling pretty much like my normal self by the time we got to Mumms, which produces some of the world’s best sparkling wine and champagne. The place was super crowded, which isn’t surprising since the weather was beautiful and they have a huge patio where they serve samplers for very reasonable prices. It didn’t help that no other wineries were open at that time of day. So we bought several bottles of champagne and drove to our hotel in San Francisco. The girls were drunk, so they slept the whole way there, while Jason and I (who had hardly ingested anything) chatted about rockets.

San Francisco: I was feeling good, so when we got to the Hyatt, being a block off the fisherman’s wharf, we went to an amazing seafood restaurant situated on a hill overlooking the bay. We went back to the room, napped, and went out to a bar for a few beers.

Sunday: I started to relapse on Sunday, probably because I pushed it so hard on Saturday. We walked around the wharf and ate crab cakes from street side vendors after filling up on clam chowder in San Francisco sourdough bread bowls. Oh, so much good food. When we were about to burst we chanced on Ghirardelli square where we all bought ice cream Sundays smothered in chocolate. Honestly, I’ve not had that high of a concentration of sugar in so long that I got a buzz from it. You know I love it, know I need it to get by, sugar high! (name that movie). We stopped by Harrah's ranch on the way home and had us some nice prime rib… I can’t believe I’d never stopped there before. So good and so cheep… mmmm. When I finally got home my cousin Charity was at my apartment visiting her sisters, and had brought a million people with her, all who were super cool. PJ stopped by later on and it was a general party.

My fingers hurt, can I stop writing now?
